Welcome to Candiland

CANDI MILO began her stage career singing with Marriott’s Great America, at age 16. From there, it was a summer at Disney World performing as the lead in Country Jubilee on the Tomorrow Land Stage, then being hired as the youngest guest entertainer by Princess Cruises. When her stint on the seas ended CANDI was hired by Peter Uberroth to perform in The Christmas Spectacular in Los Angeles, with The Radio City Music Hall Rockettes

On a break from rehearsing during her second season with The Rockettes, she snuck into a Broadway call for DREAMGIRLS, and booked the job, being selected personally by Michael Bennett himself and she was given her Equity card.  She appeared in the First National Tour. (Taking a chance and sneaking in is a theme in CANDI MILO’s career. )

After DREAMGIRLS came the Broadway Workshop for Elegies: For Angels, Punks and Raging Queens directed by Ken Page. CANDI then worked with Ken Page again and with her choreographer from DREAMGIRLS, Michael Peters, along with Stephanie Mills in the Broadway Workshop To Sir, With Love.

CANDI has opened as a stand up for both Howie Mandel and Joan Rivers in Los Angeles and performed on Tonight At The Improv. Lately, CANDI produced her own cabaret called, If She Taps, You’re F****d which won huge accolades and best Cabaret of 2015 from Broadway World.

Many people remember CANDI as the spokesperson/crazed shopper from Mervyn’s Department Stores commercials. Her famous adlib “Open! Open! Open!” made her easily recognizable.

A cousin who was stage manager on the hit TV show, Gimme A Break, starring Nell Carter, cast her as an extra. Under threat of expulsion from the lot CANDI was not to talk to Ms. Carter under any circumstances. Seizing a moment, CANDI made a beeline and did her best impression of Nell singing Ain’t Misbehavin’. Overheard by laughing producers, she was given a speaking role in the next episode, and the next one and she earned her AFTRA card.

Years later CANDI lined up at 6am to audition at the Debbie Reynolds’s Studios in Los Angeles in the hopes of being selected to star in an NBC/Dick Clark movie called Reaching For The Stars. After 3 weeks of being called back, CANDI was selected and she appeared in the very first reality movie of the week ever. The finale of the movie was an appearance of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

More film and television and nightclub appearances followed, but it was a chance audition for Steven Spielberg for the animated series, Tiny Toon Adventures that begat two decades of the most wonderful work any actor can dream of: Animation Voice Acting. CANDI is a twice-Annie Award-nominated voice actor and has created over 350 characters for film and television. She is currently on Pig, Goat, Banana, Cricket for Nickelodeon; Mighty Magiswords for Cartoon Network; Puss in Boots; Wabbit for Warner Brothers and The Weinstein Brothers’ new show Spy Kids, both for DreamWorks. She is also the official voice of Rankin Bass’ Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.

She is best known for performing the voices of Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory, AstroBoy in the series of the same name, The Flea from Mucha Lucha, Mrs. Wakeman from My Life As A Teenage Robot and Snap and Bullnerd from Chalkzone. And literally hundreds of others…

Musical Theater has played a big part of life over the last five years. Roles have included Drowsy in The Drowsy Chaperone, Leeza in Scary Musical, Laudene Miller in The Roger Miller Story, Grandmama in The Addams Family and Jeanette in The Full Monty, and now the role of Roz Keith in SDMT’s 9 to 5
